{"id":8565,"date":"2023-02-28T13:13:09","date_gmt":"2023-02-28T18:13:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.parc-mille-iles.qc.ca\/?page_id=8565"},"modified":"2025-01-27T10:56:58","modified_gmt":"2025-01-27T15:56:58","slug":"joint-declaration","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.parc-mille-iles.qc.ca\/en\/about\/joint-declaration\/","title":{"rendered":"Joint Declaration"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<h4><strong>TOWARD THE CREATION OF A MILLE \u00ceLES RIVER METROPOLITAN CONSERVATION PARK<\/strong><\/h4>\r\n<h3><strong>Mayors\u2019 joint declaration<\/strong><\/h3>\r\n<p>Throughout the world, communities are taking steps to protect biodiversity, restore natural heritage and reconnect their citizens with nature. In every case it is the ambitious and concerted action by decision-makers and civil society that makes it possible to preserve ecosystems and hence the essential services they provide for humanity.<\/p>\r\n<p>We are aware of our responsibilities in this respect and we, too, are determined to support this movement.<\/p>\r\n<p>Since 1985, we have been doing more and more to protect, showcase and interconnect our natural spaces, in particular the Mille \u00celes River, a treasure entrusted to our keeping.<\/p>\r\n<p>In fact, we are committed to achieving even more.<\/p>\r\n<p>The Mille \u00celes River and its banks are an oasis of biodiversity that plays essential ecological roles. They are home to over 385 animal species, 88 of them species at risk. The River is a source of drinking water for the nearby communities, and a source of pride for regional residents who appreciate all the opportunities it offers for recreation, relaxation and inspiration.<\/p>\r\n<p>It is up to us, the Mayors of Laval, Deux-Montagnes, Saint-Eustache, Boisbriand, Sainte-Th\u00e9r\u00e8se, Rosem\u00e8re, Bois-des-Filion, Lorraine, Terrebonne and Mascouche and the Prefects of the Les Moulins, Th\u00e9r\u00e8se-De Blainville and Deux-Montagnes RCMs, to protect and showcase this natural jewel for current and future generations.<\/p>\r\n<h3><strong>Consequently, we declare that:<\/strong><\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n\t<li>\r\n<p><strong>ARTICLE 1<br \/>\r\n<\/strong>We commit ourselves to creating the Mille \u00celes River metropolitan conservation park, which will become one of the largest protected areas in Greater Montr\u00e9al. We would like this park to open in 2024.<br \/>\r\n<br \/>\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n\t<li>\r\n<p><strong>ARTICLE 2<br \/>\r\n<\/strong>We commit ourselves to defining the perimeter of the park by determining the land to be included. It will extend 42 km along the Mille \u00celes River and could potentially cover over 5,000 hectares.<br \/>\r\n<br \/>\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n\t<li>\r\n<p><strong>ARTICLE 3<br \/>\r\n<\/strong>We are creating the Mille \u00celes River regional round table, with the mandate of developing a common vision of the future park, consolidating its governance and status, and guaranteeing its integrity and its future.
