The Parc de la Rivière-des-Mille-Îles is a non-profit organization with the mission of protecting, conserving and showcasing mainly the Mille Îles River and its tributaries, with the support of and on behalf of the local community.

In 1998, wildlife reserve status was granted by the Government of Quebec to 10 of the islands, which corresponds to 26 hectares of land. Since 2009, Éco-Nature has been leading the wildlife refuge expansion project which aims to expand the refuge from 26 hectares to more than 950 hectares.

Éco-Nature is a leader in Quebec for the application of the concept of integrated and harmonious management of three essential themes that are both its key values and its purpose:

  • Protecting and conserving natural habitats, in particular by safeguarding natural habitats, primarily those along the Mille Îles River and its tributaries, and acting as a custodian of collective resources and an educator for the community on the subjects of protection and conservation;
  • Showcasing and providing access to the river’s treasures, in particular by managing various services: land development, organizing recreational and tourism activities, renting outdoor sports equipment, showcasing its historical heritage, and offering educational, outdoor and ecotourism activities to introduce visitors to the different aspects of the river’s natural habitats;
  • Promoting public input and eco-citizenship, in particular through information, awareness, participation and training activities.
